Hematology/Oncology at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates

Welcome to the Hematology/Oncology Department at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, treating cancer and blood-related disorders with comprehensive and compassionate care. Our team was established in 1985 with a mission to provide our patients with cancer and blood related diseases with state-of-the-art treatments delivered in the most comfortable and compassionate manner. Today, we offer a full breadth of clinical and support services to patients and their families including:

  • Comprehensive consultations and follow-up visits with physicians and nurse practitioners
  • Chemotherapy infusions in our own state-of-the-art care center
  • Counseling services for patients and families with an on-site psychiatrist and psychiatric social worker

Why Choose a Harvard Vanguard Hematologist or Oncologist?

All of our physicians are board certified in either hematology or oncology or both and hold academic appointments at Harvard Medical School. Our on-site social worker and case management experts can help you and your family deal with emotional issues as well as provide assistance with home care, insurance and drug reimbursement needs. With physician, nursing, caseworker and social work offices situated in the same location as the chemotherapy infusion unit, you will receive competent, compassionate and comprehensive care in a highly integrated manner, minimizing the need for separate visits. Additionally, our advanced electronic medical record ensures that all members of your care team have access to your medical history and the latest information regarding your condition, your medication and your treatment.

Upon referral by their physician, patients with solid tumors, hematological malignancies or blood related disorders are evaluated by a department physician or nurse practitioner. If imaging services are required, we offer on-site radiographic imaging, CT, and MRI capabilities for patients. Chemotherapy treatment is received in our on-site infusion unit staffed by highly trained infusion nurses. Patients can choose to receive their care in a private cubicle with cable TV to maximize comfort during treatments.

Radiation therapy is an integral part of the treatment for many cancers and often requires daily treatments over several weeks. We routinely refer patients to radiation therapy centers close to their home or workplace to facilitate their care.

We are committed to ensuring that our patients receive needed care during the evening hours and weekends when the Hematology/Oncology Department, located at our office in Kenmore, is closed. To provide personalized care, your individual physician is on-call weeknights and a physician from our group is on-call for emergencies during the weekend. This provides 7 day a week, 24-hour coverage for all our patients. If you require assistance when the department is closed, you can also be cared for during urgent care hours at the nearest available Harvard Vanguard practice site.
