Hematology/Oncology at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates

Welcome to the Hematology/Oncology Department at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.  Established in 1985, our mission is to provide our patients with state-of-the-art treatments delivered in a comfortable and compassionate manner. Located at our Kenmore practice, we offer a full breadth of clinical and support services to our patients and their families including:

  • Comprehensive consultations and follow-up visits with physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Inpatient hospital care at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Faulkner Hospital.
  • Chemotherapy infusions administered by oncology-certified nurses in our facility.
  • Counseling services for patients and families.
  • Patient support groups.
  • 24-hour telephone medical advice with an oncologist is available to provide personalized care.
  • Urgent care for patients who may require medical attention after regular office hours or on weekends and holidays.
  • Case management services to help with family care and medical care at home.
  • A patient navigator to coordinate community services, short-term housing, local transportation, and referrals to community programs.
  • Genetic Counseling Services - The Cancer Risk Assessment and Counseling Center was created for individuals and families who are concerned about their cancer risks due to a personal or family history of cancer. Some of the services we offer include: comprehensive risk assessment of a patient’s medical and family history, genetic testing for inherited cancer syndromes (if appropriate), and ways to manage and lower cancer risks based on genetic test results and family history analysis.
  • Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic - The Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic (MBCC) is designed to address the needs of patients who have a new diagnosis of breast cancer during one comprehensive visit. Our medical and surgical oncologists use a collaborative approach to evaluate a patient, define treatments and minimize side effects. A patient will have individual visits on the same day with a medical oncologist, a breast surgeon and nurse practitioner with expertise in breast cancer. A patient navigator, social worker and case manager are also available to meet with a patient.
  • Survivorship Program – Harvard Vanguard is one of the few practices in the country to offer a breast cancer survivorship program. Our goal is to help all of our patients and families live the healthiest lives possible after a cancer diagnosis. In addition to a complete summary of their treatment to-date, patients are given a written Survivorship Care Plan which explains the next phase of their care – the ways they will be monitored, the things they can do to keep themselves healthy, and the symptoms they should report to us. They are also given a resource packet with information individualized for their specific needs, conditions and requests, all designed to ease the transition back into their everyday routines at home and at work.
