Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Congratulates LTC Gayle-Bennett
Newton, Mass. (January 2012) —Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice with offices across eastern Massachusetts and an affiliate of Atrius Health, is pleased to announce that Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Gayle-Bennett was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services and Women Veterans’ Network with the Deborah Sampson Outstanding Woman Veteran Award.
The Deborah Sampson Outstanding Woman Veteran Award is an annual award, presented to a Massachusetts resident whose military and community service is extraordinary. LTC Gayle-Bennett enlisted with the Massachusetts Army National Guard only five months after joining Harvard Vanguard as a Physician Assistant. She began as a Warrant Officer, giving medical exams to members of the Army National Guard. LTC Gayle-Bennett later became the Director of Women’s Health, Chief PA, and in 1993, a Commissioned Officer. In 2008 she was deployed to Paraguay, and in 2009 she was deployed to Iraq. Upon her return from Iraq, she was promoted to Deputy Commander ofthe Massachusetts Army National Guard. Last year, she toured the state as part of her active duty, meeting with Massachusetts soldiers, monitoring their injury recovery and ensuring that they received the treatment and services they needed. Additionally, LTC Gayle-Bennett started a military ministry through her church which works to provide better access to resources for military members and their families.
LTC Gayle-Bennett joined the Urgent Care Department at Harvard Vanguard’s Kenmore practice in 1983, and has supported many of Harvard Vanguard’s practice sites and departments. In the past, she has worked with the surgical specialties and orthopedic teams at Kenmore, the adult urgent care team at Peabody, and the pediatric teams of Kenmore, Watertown and Somerville. Currently, she is part of apediatric team that provides 24/7 telephone medical advice for Harvard Vanguard’s youngest patients and their families.
