Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Appoints Dr. Les Schwab Chief Medical Officer

Newton, MA - Oct. 21, 2008 - Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a nonprofit multi-specialty physician group with 20 practice sites throughout eastern Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that Dr. Les Schwab has been appointed Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Schwab has served as interim Chief Medical Officer for Harvard Vanguard since March 2008 and previously spent six years as Specialty Director for Internal Medicine for Harvard Vanguard. In addition, he has been an internist at Concord Hillside Medical Associates, a practice of Harvard Vanguard, in Concord, Mass.

“Dr. Schwab has already demonstrated strong leadership in our organization,” said Dr. Gene Lindsey, president and CEO of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Atrius Health. “He has a deep personal understanding of the challenges faced by physicians and other clinicians in this healthcare environment. He will be a valuable leader in furthering our innovative efforts to provide the highest level of patient care.”

Dr. Schwab began his medical career in 1978 at the Brockton and West Roxbury VA Medical Centers as a staff physician and later served as Section Chief, Ambulatory Care. He joined Concord Hillside Medical Associates in 1989 as a staff physician and later became its Managing Partner. From 1992 to 1995, he served as the Medical Director for Emerson Hospital Hospice. In 2002, Dr. Schwab became Specialty Director for Internal Medicine for Harvard Vanguard, a post he held until 2008 when he was named interim Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Schwab received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Schwab and his family live in Waban, Mass.
