Dr. Richard Marshall Selected to Represent the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics on the Massachusetts Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth (MCGLBTY)
Dr. Richard Marshall, Boston resident and Pediatrician at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Copley practice, was one of three pediatricians chosen to represent the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics on the Commission for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Youth. A welcoming ceremony for the new Commissioners took place in the Massachusetts State House in Boston on January 8th, 2007.
The Commission’s mandate is to ensure that the Commonwealth provides safe schools and communities for GLBT youth through violence and suicide prevention, and promotes a zero tolerance policy regarding harassment and discrimination toward GLBT youth. The Commission works in partnership with state agencies, particularly the Department of Education and the Department of Public Health, to create school-based and community –based programs that serve GLBT youth. The Commission is also charged with making policy recommendations to the Commonwealth.
Dr. Marshall joined Harvard Community Health Plan in 1989 and became Chief of Pediatrics in 1993. He was Medical Director of the Harvard Vanguard Copley Center and Director of Pediatrics serving as Chief Medical Officer for Harvard Vanguard from 2001-2007.
Dr. Marshall is a member of the Board of Trustees of Harvard Vanguard, and of Fenway Community Health, a community health center and research organization in Boston known for its work on HIV care and prevention. Dr. Marshall is also a member of the board of Massachusetts Health Quality Partners, an organization that works on public release of quality and patient care experience data. He practices pediatrics at Harvard Vanguard’s Copley office.
