New Shared-Care Collaboration for Pregnant Patients Among Southboro Medical Group, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Wellesley, and Newton-Wellesley Hospital

(November 5, 2007) - Southboro Medical Group and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Wellesley, both affiliates of Atrius Health, are pleased to announce a new collaborative program for expectant mothers with Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

The collaboration for patients in the MetroWest area allows for prenatal care to begin close to home at Southboro Medical Group, with an eventual transition to an obstetrician at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Wellesley. Once at Harvard Vanguard, mothers have the choice of adding an experienced nurse midwife to the team that manages the delivery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. For post-natal care, the patient returns to Southboro. Throughout the pregnancy, a single electronic medical record will ease the transition and coordinate care across the two medical groups.

“We are very excited about our new program for expectant families,” said Dr. Marvin Ostrovsky, Southboro Medical Group President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “It offers patients greater flexibility while maintaining a high level of quality care.”

Southboro Medical Group offers extensive pre-pregnancy planning through post-delivery care, including issues around fertility, health-related complications, and care for low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. In the past, Southboro Medical Group patients could only deliver at MetroWest Medical Center.

“We look forward to partnering with Southboro Medical Group and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates to bring a broader level of maternity care to our community,” said Dr. Thomas Beatty, Jr., Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “This new collaboration will enhance the already excellent services we provide to mothers and their newborns in the western suburbs."
