Harvard Vanguard Physicians to Accept Tufts Medicare Preferred in 2007
Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates announces that their physicians will participate in the Tufts Medicare Preferred HMO, beginning January 1, 2007. Physicians at Harvard Vanguard will not accept Harvard Pilgrim’s First Seniority products next year. This change affects approximately 20,000 Medicare beneficiaries who currently receive insurance coverage through Harvard Pilgrim’s First Seniority and who see their doctors at Harvard Vanguard’s locations. Only patients of Harvard Vanguard with First Seniority are affected by this change.
The 20,000 patients presently covered by First Seniority can maintain their physician relationships and comprehensive coverage by enrolling with Tufts Medicare Preferred. Additionally, Harvard Vanguard will continue to accept traditional Medicare and Medicare Supplement.
According to Richard Lopez, M.D., Deputy Medical Director, Harvard Vanguard physicians conducted an extensive evaluation of the health plans available to Medicare beneficiaries, as well as the best fit for the practice. "We believe it is in the best interest of our patients and our practice to partner with Tufts Health Plan. Tufts Health Plan shares our vision for the very best care of Medicare beneficiaries and continues to expand its programs to complement what we do as caregivers. It’s an exciting opportunity and we anticipate that patients will be comfortable with Tufts Health Plan’s substantial track record as an excellent health plan," says Lopez.
The enrollment period for these First Seniority members begins October 1 and continues through December 31st. Harvard Vanguard encourages its patients with questions to call its hotline at 1-800-376-8949 or to contact their physician’s office.
