When the center is fully completed, South Shore patients will have access in one local facility to all of the non-surgical services necessary for cancer treatment. The cancer center will provide treatment with chemotherapy and the latest “targeted” anti-cancer medication and advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities using state-of-the-art PET/CT technologies for cancer detection and diagnosis. In addition, on-site radiation therapy services will be provided, including an advanced radiation treatment, intensity modulated radiation therapy, which enables physicians to deliver very specific doses of radiation to selected areas of a tumor with greater precision. Also envisioned are pediatric hematology and oncology services and support services such nutrition and counseling.
"We are delighted to collaborate with CHO, New England’s largest private practice cancer care network, to bring this new facility to the South Shore," said Michael A. Lee, M.D., Board Chairman, HealthOne Care System. "We’ll be bringing the most advanced technologies and services right to patients so they can stay close to their support network of family, friends, and other community medical professionals while receiving care that they need."
The cancer center is slated to open in spring 2007 as the largest occupant of the Weymouth Woods Medical Center. The center’s services will be available to patients from all community-based practices, including HealthOne Care System affiliated groups — Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, South Shore Medical Center, and Granite Medical Group. These HealthOne Care System groups serve 150,000 patients on the South Shore. The radiation oncology and diagnostic units will be operated as an outpatient site of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.
"A groundbreaking aspect of our new cancer center is that thousands of South Shore residents will have access to the highest level of medical oncology and radiation therapy that is very close to where they live and work," said Walt A. Kagan, M.D., Ph.D., President of Commonwealth Hematology-Oncology PC. "Patients will benefit from comprehensive, community-based diagnosis and treatment that is truly world-class."
HealthOne Care System and CHO have leased approximately 32,000 feet of 68,363 square feet at Weymouth Woods Medical Center, which will be the South Shore’s newest first class medical office building. The 3-story state-of-the-art professional and clinical office facility will be located across from the Weymouth Woods Corporate Center on the Libbey Industrial Parkway. It was designed by R&K Architectural Associates, and will be 100 percent dedicated to leading medical practices. Campanelli Companies will develop, own, manage and lease the building at which the HealthOne and CHO program will occupy the entire first floor and part of the 2nd floor.
