About Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates
Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates is a multispecialty group practice with over 500 physicians in Greater Boston. Harvard Vanguard physicians care for over 300,000 patients in Greater Boston and are affiliated with Boston's leading hospitals including Brigham and Women's/Faulkner, Beth Israel Deaconness, Mt. Auburn, and Children's Hospitals, as well as leading community hospitals north, south and west of Boston.
The Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates practice was founded in 1969
by Dr. Robert Ebert, then Dean of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ebert
and his colleagues envisioned a physician group that would be devoted
to excellent patient care, with special focus on prevention and the
care of patients from all segments of society. Today, Harvard Vanguard
Medical Associates is a major teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical
School. Its physicians continue to care for seniors and vulnerable members
of the community.
Harvard Vanguard physicians have been leaders in the nation's efforts to improve quality and safety in medical care. Internists, pediatricians, and other specialists have designed programs to raise substantially the rate at which patients receive proper preventive care. Moving beyond prevention, the group has pioneered programs in the care of patients with chronic illness, including asthma, diabetes, and congestive heart failure.
Harvard Vanguard physicians have also been among the nation's first medical groups to introduce a fully integrated electronic medical record. Called EpicCare, this state-of-the-art system permits doctors and nurses to provide demonstrated improvements in quality of care and safety, to involve patients in their own care, and to permit email contact with their doctors in a secure environment.
When outside experts assess quality of care through careful review of charts, Harvard Vanguard physicians have always been among the nation's leaders. The recent release of quality of care information by the Massachusetts Health Quality Partnership is no exception: Harvard Vanguard physicians received MHQP's highest rating of 3 stars on 12 of 16 measures, and was ranked first on seven of the sixteen.
