Debra Ann Geihsler has been named Chief Executive Officer for both Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and HealthOne Care System.
She assumes her new post June 26th, following her successful and widely respected 8-year tenure as president of Advocate Medical Group, a division of Advocate Health Care in Chicago.
Geihsler has 24 years of experience as a leader in health care, with much of that time managing large physician groups within health systems in the Midwest. Advocate Medical Group, which she has directed for the past eight years, consists of approximately 300 physicians and residents with over 25 locations. During her tenure at the multi-specialty group, Geihsler increased revenues by six percent each year, created a model of leadership and customer service standards replicated across multiple Advocate hospitals, and developed new partnerships with local hospitals and community groups.
Geihsler’s commitment to excellent patient centered care, dedication to the community, and ability to deliver creative solutions promises to build on what is already a strong foundation at Harvard Vanguard and HealthOne. Her development of health programs for the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police in response to a need she and her physicians identified, and her success in seeking grant money and contributions to support an under-funded program for patients with Downs’ Syndrome are among many noted accomplishments.
"Deb Geihsler’s approach to leading a large medical group is perfectly in synch with our mission and culture at Harvard Vanguard," said Gene Lindsey, M.D., a cardiologist and Harvard Vanguard Board Chairman. "She has a track record of financial success, employee development, and, most importantly, ensuring that patients consistently receive excellent care."
Michael Lee, MD, pediatrician and HealthOne Board Chairman said, "We are fortunate to have attracted a recognized leader known for a tremendous commitment to our mission of innovation in delivering outstanding patient care. Her creativity will add to our strong foundation to find ways that we can greatly advance the cause of improving the health of our community."
From 1992 to 1998, Geihsler was Vice President of Medical Management and Operations at Mercy Health System in Janesville, Wisconsin. From 1985 to 1992 she held the post of Vice President, Administrative Services at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan. She started her career as a Personnel Generalist and as an Administrative Supervisor in social services in Detroit.
Geihsler received her Master in Health Services Administration from Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine, and completed Master’s coursework and a Bachelor degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Eugene C. Wallace has been acting CEO since September 2005. Under Wallace’s tenure, Harvard Vanguard posted its strongest financial performance ever, continued its leadership in quality, and HealthOne continued to make strong progress in this year’s roll-out of an electronic medical records system to all of the HealthOne medical groups. Wallace will continue as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Administration for both organizations, with an expanded role in ensuring a successful transition.
The search committee, composed of board members, physicians, and other key leaders of the Harvard Vanguard and HealthOne, including Harvard Vanguard, was led by Randy Stone, a Harvard Vanguard Board Member and a former Teradyne executive. According to Stone, "The effective collaboration of Harvard Vanguard and HealthOne on this critical decision shows the joint commitment to shared goals."
