HMR Program Options
- Clinic-based option - The clinic-based program provides the highest level of support and offers medical supervision if required. Participants attend weekly group classes at the Kenmore or Chelmsford practices where they learn strategies for lowering fat and calorie intake, and how to incorporate physical activity and more fruits and vegetables into their daily routine. Participants keep simple records and create weekly goals and learn to manage their weight within a structure of personal accountability. A Harvard Vanguard health educator leads all group meetings and is available via phone and e-mail for one-on-one support. During Phase 1 of the program the focus will be to achieve aggressive and consistent weight loss week in and week out. After participation in Phase 1, participants continue to attend weekly group classes where they will focus on learning the skills needed for successful long-term weight management.
- Home-based option - For participants who travel often, require more flexibility, and do not require medical supervision, there is a home-based diet option with meals and structured meal plans. HMR at Home offers two do-it-yourself weight-loss kits, each with a complete collection of HMR diet foods, weight-loss tools, and tips.
Phase 2
After participating in the highly structured Phase 1 program, participants will continue to attend weekly group classes in Phase 2. In Phase 2, participants continue receiving structure and support to learn the skills needed for successful long-term weight management. Participants begin to introduce new foods into their diets during Phase 2. Depending on the participants goals, one can either continue to lose weight gradually in Phase 2 or maintain their weight loss. In either case, the goal is to firmly establish long-term healthy lifestyle habits that will support your for the rest of your life.
